“My daughter Avery enrolled in Princess Dance Camp this past summer. I was amazed by how much the Princesses learned in just one week. Above that, I loved the messages instilled in each of them that inner beauty is more important than material things and that doing things in God’s favor was of the highest importance. The absolute best thing was to see how much fun the girls had and the friendships formed!”

“Our daughter always looks forward to this full week of caring, professional instructors instilling proper technique, skills and encouragement into her. She’s not only challenged and inspired by the classes, but also makes great friends along the way. And always comes home exhausted, but excited to show us everything she learned. As parents, we love that she is getting taught the proper technique to ensure future growth in something she is so passionate about.”

Who will be teaching my child?
The ROOTS camp staff includes a dedicated group of vetted and experienced teachers. Most are year-round ROOTS mentors, but some have been hired specifically for their camp because of their expertise in the summer camp topic.

How early can we drop off, and how late can we pick up? Do you have after camp care?
Check-in will begin 15 minutes before camp begins. Check-out will begin promptly at the camp end time. There is no after-camp care.

What if I need to withdraw my student from the camp? Do we get a refund?
Cancellations made prior to one month before the camp start date are eligible for reimbursement in the original form of payment, minus the $50 processing fee.
Do we have to be enrolled in lessons or classes at ROOTS to participate in a camp?
While we’d love for you to continue your education with us before and after summer camps, you do not have to be a current student in order to attend camps. Anyone is welcome!
Will I get to see what my child has worked on at the end of camp?
All ROOTS Camps (besides Dance Intensive) will have an end-of-camp performance to showcase all that students have learned. Details regarding the performance may vary for each camp and will be sent out closer to camp time.
Dance FAQ
Will my student need to bring a lunch, snack, or drink to camp with them?
Some camps will run through lunch time and will require students to bring a packed lunch. Make sure you read through your camp’s description to see if lunch will be needed. ROOTS will provide snacks for camps. We have water dispensers stationed around the studio, and we encourage students to bring refillable water bottles.
My student has never danced before and just wants to have fun. What camps are best for my child?
Depending on age, we recommend Preschool Boogie Camp, Princess Dance Camp, and Hip Hop Camp for beginner students who are looking to have a great time!
My student has never danced before, but is very eager to learn and be challenged. What camps are best for my child?
Depending on age, we recommend Camp Dance for beginner and intermediate students who are eager to advance their technique in a non-competitive and encouraging environment. Our Summer Intensive is geared toward advanced students and is great for students looking to be challenged in a fast-paced and focused atmosphere.
What am I supposed to wear?
We recommend fitted dance apparel, such as leggings, tank tops, dance shorts and leotards. For hip hop, layers can be worn such as joggers, sweatpants, T-shirts and hoodies.

Shoes: Tennis shoes are required for hip hop. Ballet shoes (canvas or leather depending on age) are required for ballet. For jazz and lyrical, we recommend pirouettes or jazz shoes. For contemporary, dance socks are permitted.

Hair: Hair should be pulled up and out of the face to avoid distraction.

About ROOTS Music & Dance Academy
ROOTS Music & Dance Academy was established in 2008 as a music and dance studio in Franklin, TN. Over the years, the studio has expanded in students, studio locations, as well as the number of classes offered.

What You Can Expect
ROOTS is a fun, engaging and safe place for students of all ages to learn the art of dance. We are a performing arts academy that’s designed to teach with excellence and committed to empowering our students to do their best.

The ROOTS Philosophy
ROOTS was created to give students of all ages a chance to explore what’s possible in the world of performing arts. Whether it’s music lessons, dance classes or summer camps, we build all of our programs around the same three foundations:

1. Creativity
We believe every student possesses a unique gift of creativity. Our mentors tailor each experience to help students to foster, uncover and explore their creative and problem-solving potential.

2. Discipline
Journalist and bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell popularized the idea that it takes roughly 10,000 hours of practice to achieve mastery in a field. At ROOTS, we are committed to instilling discipline in our students to achieve their highest potential.

3. Performance
We are committed to teaching our students to perform at their best. Whether that’s in a recital, concert or a performance event, our students will be coached on self-awareness, presentation and audience engagement.
This is our philosophy and our promise to you.
